In Japan, eCommerce giant Rakuten has partnered with marcoms group Dentsu to establish a new company called Rakuten Data Marketing, combining their big data and mass media expertise and launching in October.
Tokyo-based Rakuten Data Marketing will combine Rakuten Group's membership base and data with the Dentsu Group's data and insights relating to mass media and consumers, to develop personalized advertising products. It also plans to support the development of customer strategies for brands, and offer integrated media planning services beyond the digital field.
It will be led by Makoto Arima (pictured), who joins in the newly created position of Group Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer (CRO). Arima previously held leadership roles at Google, Yahoo, Recruit, and most recently retargeting business Adroll, where he served as Executive Chairman, AdRoll KK and VP, AdRoll Global.
