New DRG Tool Segments Integrated Delivery Networks

August 15 2017

In the US, pharma researcher Decision Resources Group (DRG) has introduced a new methodology for analyzing and segmenting groups of healthcare providers known as Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs).

Mark CherryAn IDN is a formal system of providers that offer both healthcare services and a health insurance plan to patients in a defined geographical area. Created by DRG Principal Analyst Mark Cherry (pictured), the new IDN Analyzer includes a definition and rating system to help clients benchmark and interact with IDNs. Users receive a holistic view of each IDN and its development stage, looking at factors such as regional presence, market share, patient population, health plan enrolment, affiliated physician data, and corporate statistics.

The system profiles the top 140 IDNs and evaluates them in four categories: provider alignment, continuum of care, clinical integration, and reimbursement model. Within these categories, the IDN is assigned a development stage rating for that vertical, along with a forward-looking analysis. Cherry comments: 'By measuring their performance in several key metrics, we can not only compare and evaluate IDNs, but also better understand their goals and anticipate their strategies going forward'.
