InMobi Buys Pinsight Media, Partners with Sprint

Singapore-based InMobi, which provides enterprise platforms for marketers, has acquired mobile data and targeting company Pinsight Media, from telecoms giant Sprint, in an all-stock deal. InMobi and Sprint will also partner for digital marketing and mobile ad product development.

Based in Kansas City, MO, Pinsight taps location data from more than 32 million Sprint customers to find and target the best prospects on behalf of clients. The firm also has offices in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. InMobi says the deal will allow it to combine network-level mobile data with data from mobile applications and mobile web browsers, to offer CMOs 'an integrated end-to-end view of consumers, surpassing other platforms in the industry'. Specifically, it will also add a 'cutting-edge' data management platform to the InMobi Marketing Cloud.

Anurakt Jain, VP and GM, Strategic Data Partnerships at InMobi, says the buy 'significantly enhances our ability to deliver intelligent consumer insights, audiences and customer engagement for CMOs'. The company has already this year acquired AerServ and partnered with Microsoft.

Naveen Tewari (pictured), founder and CEO at InMobi, says the deal ' provides a global template for partnerships between advertising platforms and telcos', while Rob Roy, Chief Digital Officer at Sprint, says of the future collaboration: 'We have been looking for a strategic partner that can deliver the latest digital marketing and mobile advertising technologies, besides having a deep appreciation of regulatory, privacy, and data concerns'. InMobi's appreciation of the latter will have been enhanced by an experience in 2016 when it agreed to pay $950k and implement a rigorous internal privacy program to settle FTC charges of large scale unauthorised location tracking for targeting purposes.
