BioInformatics Buys Kalorama, Raises Acquisition Funds

Life science sector research and advisory company BioInformatics has acquired healthcare MR publisher Kalorama Information from MarkerResearch.com for an undisclosed sum. To fund the buy and for other growth initiatives, BioInformatics has raised $21m.

Craig OverpeckKalorama supplies independent medical market research across the diagnostics, biotech, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and healthcare sectors; while offering a full range of custom research services. Under the terms of the deal, MarketResearch.com will continue selling Kalorama's reports for BioInformatics. The assets of Kalorama Information will be combined with BioInformatics' existing capabilities, all managed and integrated under the umbrella of BioInformatics' parent company Science and Medicine Group, whose services also include digital media and marketing, publishing and education.

The $21m Series B commitment was led by BroadOak Capital, Pablo Capital and Research Corporation Technologies, and leaves capital in reserve for other growth initiatives and future acquisitions. Craig Overpeck (pictured), CEO of BioInformatics, comments: 'This acquisition further solidifies our leadership position in the life science, diagnostics, and imaging markets while presenting us with exciting opportunities in adjacent healthcare markets including medical device, pharma, and biotech'.
