DataRobot to Buy Analytics / AI Start-Up Paxata

December 24 2019

Enterprise machine learning specialist DataRobot is to acquire Paxata, an AI-based start-up whose platform is used to ready raw data for analytics. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Jeremy AchinPaxata's platform is used by business analysts to create a dataset for training predictive models, deploying data preparation steps with AI models, and preparing data for specific AI routines. The software automates functions such as detecting whether records belong to the same person or address.

DataRobot says the acquisition will enhance its own customers' ability to automate their data preparation processes. Paxata's nearly 100 employees, including CEO and co-founder Prakash Nanduri will join DataRobot's c.1,000 existing employees. Following the deal the companies have launched an integration into DataRobot's AI Catalog, to help business analysts and citizen data scientists prepare data for machine learning.

Jeremy Achin (pictured), CEO and co-founder of DataRobot, comments: 'Data prep for AI has been a long-standing challenge for AI projects. With the addition of the AI-enabled data prep and enterprise data fabric solution from Paxata we will now give business users the industry's most complete enterprise-class platform to automate the AI lifecycle from start to finish'.

The buy is DataRobot's third in 2019 and fifth since 2017, when it took over data science software company Nutonian.
