Funds for In-Store Video Analytics Firm Deep North

Silicon Valley-based computer vision and AI-powered video analytics company Deep North has closed a $25.7m Series A funding round, which it says will be used in 'digitizing the next generation of brick-and-mortar retail and shopping centers on a global level'.

The company promises its clients 'insights for the physical world that previously could only be captured online', via a patent-pending platform using advanced object recognition. This turns video feeds from existing camera infrastructure into actionable customer journey analytics, including product interaction, traffic patterns, optimal utilization and customer service provision. The results allow retailers, shopping malls and building managers to improve real-time decision-making and optimize individual consumer interactions.

The latest round was led by London-based Celeres Investments, with participation from Engage, AI List Capital and others. Funds will also be used to support expansion of the team, build the AI platform, give customers more data-driven insights, and explore additional verticals beyond retail and transportation.

Co-founder and CTO Jinjun Wang (pictured) says the firm will 'continue to innovate on the technology to ensure customers have access to accurate and reliable data to successfully compete with online platforms'. Co-founder and CEO Rohan Sanil believes the solution 'provides shopping malls, brick-and-mortar retail stores and transportation hubs with the real-time data and analytics they need to reclaim consumer traffic from the digital world, thereby creating a better customer experience'.
