Merkle Promotes for EMEA and Americas Lead Roles

Data-driven marketing and CX management company Merkle has promoted Sam Taverner to the role of EMEA Chief Growth Officer of the Merkle and dentsu CXM Service Line, and Liz Rutgersson to Chief Media Officer, Merkle Americas.

Sam Taverner and Liz RutgerssonPart of marcoms network dentsu, Merkle has more than 9,600 employees based in its Columbia, MD headquarters and more than fifty other offices across the US, EMEA and Asia Pacific. Taverner joined in 2016 when Merkle acquired CRM, marketing and decision management solutions provider Comet Global Consulting. At Comet, he served as UK MD, having previously held senior roles at CACI and Experian. Most recently, he ran Merkle's Technology Services division. In his new role, Taverner will be responsible for further developing and leading growth across EMEA, while leading the EMEA Alliances Platform, driving growth across all Merkle's technology partners.

He takes over from Margaret Wagner, who was recently promoted to the role of EMEA President, and comments: 'Sam has played an incredibly important role in our expansion across EMEA, growing our data and martech operation and establishing our first-class offshore capability to deliver value and excellent service to our clients. He is an industry leading data and technology expert and builds respect and loyalty within his team, and I am very excited about what Sam will achieve for Merkle and our clients'.

Rutgersson has been with the group for more than a decade, having initially worked for performance marketing agency Periscopix prior to its acquisition by Merkle in 2015. Since joining, she has been responsible for launching programmatic, paid social, and integrated media teams, as well as building the foundation for aligned agency services operations across the UK and EMEA. From her role in New York, she is now charged with further developing Merkle's data-driven, technology-enabled media capabilities for the Americas. She reports to Patrick Hounsell, EVP and Global Head of Performance Media, who comments: 'With her impressive background, outstanding leadership skills, and clear understanding of Merkle's goal to deliver a total customer experience, there is no better person than Liz to take on this role as Chief Media Officer'.
