MRS Talks Turkey

May 17 2004

The UK's Market Research Society (MRS) has added a 'Turkey Award' to its annual ceremony celebrating Research Effectiveness . The new addition, given for the 'best anonymous cameo that describes research which, in retrospect, was a disaster', is intended to add fun to the occasion and help researchers to learn from others' mistakes.

Nominations and applications for the gong, subtitled the 'Lessons we have learnt' Award, are invited (1000-word synopsis required) along with those for more serious awards, as follows:

The MRS / AURA Insight Management Effectiveness Award
To be given to 'the submission that best demonstrates the distillation of insights gained from different channels that added value to the organisation by advising its board on its future strategic direction'.

The MRS Public Policy / Social Research Effectiveness Award
For 'the submission that best demonstrates the impact of research on decision-making within, and understanding of the issues relating to, the public policy and/or social arena'.

ISBA Award
For 'the submission that best indicates how research increases understanding of the way in which advertising works, whether in conventional or new media, or other forms of marketing communication including public relations'.

MRS Applications of Research Award (Research Effectiveness Case History)
Given to the submission which best demonstrates how research can aid decision-making.

For each of these, the basis of the submission should be a 1500-word synopsis.

The David Winton Award for Best Technical Paper Sponsored by TNS
The award for 'the best paper which introduces a new technique or stretches an existing technique in a way which adds to the body of market research knowledge. This includes the application of an established technique from another discipline to a research environment'. Papers presented at RESEARCH 2004 or published in the International Journal of Market Research are automatically considered for the Award, but applications are also welcome from authors of papers appearing in equivalent British publications. The majority of the paper's authors must be British.

More details are available from www.mrs.org.uk/awards/call.htm - anyone wishing to submit should of course consult this further info before doing so.

The Panel of judges is chaired by Professor Michael Thomas, consists of leading researchers from agencies, client organisations and academia, and will sit during July and August 2004. The Research Excellence & Effectiveness Awards Dinner and Presentation Ceremony is on Tuesday 26th October 2004 and will be covered by DRNO provided we are invited and can sit near enough the front to see and hear roughly what's going on.
