Record Year for Merlinco

May 19 2004

Survey software provider Merlinco has enjoyed its best results to date, despite difficult times for the industry. MD Peter Jackling told the 13th annual User Group meeting last week that the successful year reflected both encouraging sales of newer technologies and continuing enthusiasm for tabulation packages.

Users from the UK and overseas met at the Marlborough Hotel in London. Announcing the results in his welcome address, Jackling said it was 'especially pleasing to have such good results when the market is generally down - this shows the value of our software in contributing to improvements in the bottom line'.

The business comes from a broad range of survey applications, according to Jackling. 'Although we have seen large sales of CATI systems, web interviewing, and 'Palm' based data collection sites, there are still many people buying tabulation packages - maybe because MERLIN is now the only major package still being actively developed and supported'.

Other sessions covered links to and from other applications, and the future of batch tabulation. John Tebboth reviewed the links between Merlinco software and Word, for both questionnaire design and analysis, and announced a new top-line report in Word, in questionnaire format. Development Director Keith Hughes chaired an open session, discussing the future of batch tabulation, which acknowledged that whilst there will always be a need for survey analysis, with a tab 'engine', the nature of the job is changing, with more focus on methods of delivery.
