Media Distillery and Gracenote in EPG Partnership

AI tech provider Media Distillery and Nielsen's music, video and sports tech company Gracenote have combined their technologies and data sets to create a solution helping pay-TV operators to improve their Electronic Programme Guides (EPGs) for viewers.

Simon AdamsAccording to the firms, TV platforms typically broadcast linear content at the start times indicated in their EPGs. However, programmes often don't start at the exact moment their EPGs list, and if the content starts later than indicated, viewers are compelled to watch the end of the previous show or an advertising break.

The new joint solution uses Media Distillery's EPG Correction technology with Gracenote's Global Video Data offering, to give TV providers access to the 'most precise' programme start and end times, as well as control over replay and catch-up viewing experiences. With the new joint solution, actual programme start times are automatically updated in the guide in near real time.
