Global Auto Group Stellantis Launches Data Business

Car manufacturing conglomerate and mobility provider Stellantis, whose brands include Citroën, Fiat, Chrysler and Maserati, has announced the launch of a unit dedicated to B2B products, applications and services based on its massive data sets.

Global Auto Group Stellantis Launches Data BusinessStellantis, which is headquartered in Amsterdam, was formed in 2021 as a 50-50 cross-border merger between Italian-American group Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and France's PSA Group. Its brands also include Alfa Romeo, Dodge, Jeep, Opel, Peugeot, Vauxhall and hire business Free2move. The combined group has some 300,000 employees and manufacturing facilities in 30 countries.

Mobilisights will be a fully independent business unit dedicated to growing the company's data as a service (DaaS) business, and its products and services will be sold to private enterprises, public-sector utilities, educational and research institutions. These offers will make full use of data from a projected 34 million connected vehicles by 2030 - Mobilisights has exclusive access and rights to license vehicle and related data from all Stellantis brands to external customers. Products will be fully privacy-compliant, the firm says, using anonymized and aggregated data, only sharing personal data of customers with their consent and only for the specific services of their choosing. 'Customers also can opt out of information being collected, used or shared, even after they have given their consent', the firm notes.

The launch is one of seven new units announced in the car giant's 'Dare Forward 2030' strategic plan, and Mobilisights will be 'a key contributor' to the total of c.EUR 20 billion in incremental annual revenues which Stellantis projects will come from its software strategy by 2030. The Group plans to employ 4,500 software engineers by 2024.
