Teradata Buys Catalog Solution Stemma

July 26 2023

In the US, big data analytics platform Teradata has acquired data catalog solution Stemma Technologies, which uses AI and machine learning to help users 'discover, trust, and use their data more effectively'. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Dorian Johnson and Mark GroverFounded in 2020 by Dorian Johnson and Mark Grover (pictured), Stemma's solution was designed to provide enhanced ease of use data search capabilities and automated data intelligence, through its open-source data discovery and metadata engine, Amundsen. With the solution, automated query descriptions, column-level lineage and metadata enable users to see how data was created, who the top users are, and how the data is used for dashboards and common queries.

With twenty built-in data connectors, Teradata says Stemma's data catalog solution will strengthen its own data fabric and accelerate the analytic productivity of its Vantage platform. Hillary Ashton, Teradata's Chief Product Officer, comments: 'With a focus on AI-enhanced data search and exploration, we expect Stemma to broaden Teradata's capacity to provide transformative analytics value from discovery through delivery. We are thrilled to welcome Stemma's strong team of engineers and metadata experts to help advance Teradata's product roadmap in data lineage, data governance and data compliance'.
