CMOR Appoints Respondent Co-operation Advocate

November 30 2004

The Council for Marketing and Opinion Research (CMOR) has named Harry E. Heller, Ph.D., as Director of Respondent Co-operation.

Dr. Heller will be responsible for two overlapping initiatives - helping the industry develop best practice for enhancing consumer co-operation, and educating consumers as to the importance of participating in survey research. CMOR is a non-profit organization whose other main role is to promote positive legislation impacting survey research.

In a long career in research, Dr. Heller was VP, Research of advertising agencies Benton & Bowles (DMB&B) and K&E (also known as BJK&E); and founded the Heller Research Group, where in 30 years he did research for 50 of the Fortune 500 companies. He is a former president of the AMA's New York chapter, and was Chairman of both CASRO and CMOR, as well as two honorary organizations, the Market Research Council and The Copy Research Council. In 2003, his peers at the Market Research Council elected him to the Marketing Research Hall of Fame.

According to Kathy Pilhuj, Chairman of the Respondent Co-operation Committee, Heller brings great industry visibility as well as his wealth of experience in MR. 'Improving the public's perception of surveys is an area in which Harry has done extensive research and writing. He comes to CMOR with a long term goal of making the public more interested in, and motivated to, understand the role of surveys in our society and to be more willing to provide their opinions'.

CMOR comprises more than 150 organizations and members, including industry trade associations, research providers, end users or client companies, academic institutions and individuals, and is on the Web at www.cmor.org
