Twilio CEO Steps Down, New CEO and Chair Appointed

Customer engagement platform Twilio has appointed a new Chief Executive. Co-founder Jeff Lawson is stepping down from the role and from the Board, and Khozema Shipchandler, formerly President of the Twilio Communications division, succeeds him in both capacities.

Meanwhile Jeff Epstein, a member of the Twilio Board and Lead Independent Director since 2017, has been appointed as Board Chairman.

Twilio's Customer Engagement Platform (CEP) allows users to build direct, personalized relationships with customers all over the world, 'adding intelligence and security to every step of the customer journey'.

Shipchandler has more than 25 years of experience growing businesses and driving financial performance across global, public organizations. Before Twilio he spent more than two decades at GE, optimizing operations in the high tech aviation division and helping to accelerate growth in the middle east. Before the Twilio Communications role he was the group's COO and CFO.

Describing Lawson as 'a tech visionary and pioneer' who has 'led Twilio through its incredible evolution from a disruptive startup to an admired public company', Shipchandler says he will focus on 'continuing to build on the considerable growth and operating improvements [already] made across the board, plus taking a fresh look at the areas of the business that are underperforming to realize the full potential of the business'.

Highlighting Twilio's '306,000 customers' and more than $4bn in annualized revenue, Lawson says of his successor: 'Khozema is a great leader, and I am confident he will lead the company well'.
