Whiting Adds MMI Leadership as VNU Restructures

January 20 2005

Susan D. Whiting, much in the news of late as President and CEO of Nielsen Media Research, will combine this role with heading up VNU's Media Measurement & Information (MMI) group, as of April 4 when Mike Connors departs.

Whiting, whose new title is Executive VP of MMI, has been with Nielsen Media Research since 1978 and was named its President and CEO in 2002.

Other changes will also take place from April 4th. Michael Marchesano will lead Nielsen Entertainment, which will remain as a division of MMI, in order to achieve better harmonization and greater collaboration among the entertainment segments of VNU's businesses. Marchesano has been with the company since 1999 and was named President and CEO of VNU Business Media U.S. in 2001, a responsibility he will continue to hold.

VNU has also announced the introduction of an Operating Committee as part of a new management structure. This will have the aim of aligning strategies, in order to identify areas of operating improvement both within the corporate area and within the business units and facilitate inter-group cooperation.

Along with the Executive Board members, Rob van den Bergh, Chairman and CEO, Rob Ruijter, CFO, and Mike Connors until his departure, the Operating Committee will include Mike Marchesano, Steve Schmidt, Susan Whiting and Steve Wilson as well as key corporate staff members.

Rob van den Bergh, Chairman and CEO says the appointment of Whiting and the new committee 'serve to reshape the top management structure of our company: a strong experienced and balanced Operating Committee which will be able to manage across traditional boundaries in our company'.
