Ipsos Adds UK CATI Potential

March 11 2005

Ipsos UK opens a new telephone centre in Lowestoft, Suffolk, this week. The new facility will support the existing international CATI centre in Harrow, North London in coping with growing demand, especially via the company's Public Affairs division.

The company completed nearly 400,000 CATI interviews in 2004 and currently uses the group's 1200+ in-house CATI booths. CatiCentre MD Robert Kirby says demand for CATI continued to grow unabated last year, and is expected to continue the rapid rise in 2005.

The Lowestoft unit will mirror the high-tech offering of Harrow, including live, remote monitoring. Fifty staff have already been recruited, following open days with the local Job Centre, and further recruitment should take place in the summer.

The choice of Lowestoft was the end product of detailed research involving government statistics on population, unemployment and wages, contacts with local job centres to assess staff availability and the response to job ads in different local papers.

'CATI represents a significant income stream for us' says Kirby 'and we needed additional resources to support this. We were able to make the best choice based on the availability of a skilled workforce, suitable premises and attitude of the local people, companies and authorities. We look forward to building our presence in the region'.
