Ipsos Goes Global with Public Affairs

April 19 2005

Ipsos is launching a new Global Public Affairs unit, consolidating the Group's offering in the sector. The move follows similar global consolidation for the ASI (advertising) and Loyalty business streams in 2001 and 2004 respectively.

Previously, the Group's largest integrated unit dedicated to the sector was North American Public Affairs, whose President and COO Darrell Bricker will head up the new Global unit alongside Pierre Giacometti, MD of Ipsos France. Other key roles will be taken by Sam McGuire, currently Director of Ipsos UK Public Affairs, and public affairs managers in France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, and Spain.

The Group will focus on building up an international network of public affairs researchers, products and services in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Ipsos says the new unit will follow a 'confederation' model, 'supporting local teams, and taking into account the reality of individual markets, while also facilitating the exchange of information between public affairs researchers and the integration of projects around the world'.

Giacometti emphasises the strong base of success in the sector on which the new structure will build: 'Our objective for the coming years will be to further enhance our corporate expertise in Germany, Spain, and UK; increase our involvement in international pitches; and develop global syndicated surveys as well as relationships on Ipsos global accounts'. According to McGuire, public affairs is 'a strong driver of awareness and business development', so the profile of the new unit should have positive effects on the rest of the group.
