Belgian Academic to Lead MSI

May 26 2005

Dominique M. Hanssens has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the Marketing Science Institute (MSI), serving for 2005-7. Mr Hanssens succeeds Leigh McAlister of the University of Texas at Austin, and will start in July 2005.

The Executive Director oversees the quality and content of MSI-sponsored research and co-ordinates the interests of the not-for-profit organisation's corporate members and academics from some 200 universities around the world.

Hanssens is currently the Bud Knapp Professor of Marketing at the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management, where he has been on the faculty since 1977, and has served as faculty chair, associate dean, and marketing area chair. His many awards include the Anderson School's Neidorf 'Decade' teaching award in 2003. His research focuses on strategic marketing problems, in particular marketing productivity, using methods such as econometrics and time-series analysis. He has served as area editor for Marketing Science and associate editor for Management Science, and three of his articles have won best paper awards, in Marketing Science (1995, 2001, 2002) and Journal of Marketing Research (1999).

His qualifications include a BS in Econometrics at the University of Antwerp, and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Krannert Graduate School of Management, Purdue University. The MSI is online at www.msi.org
