MR Firms Announce Growth for Early 2005

Synovate has achieved 17.9% revenue growth for first half of this year, compared with 14.8% for its parent Aegis Group as a whole. Similarly at VNU, the research division outperforms the rest of the company. Other company results vary, but all point to growth in the MR sector.
Synovate's revenues increased from £122.8m for the first half of last year to £144.8m for the first half of 2005. Other research firms' recent half-year financial announcements include the following.
- Ipsos achieved 12.5% revenue growth, with 16% from its market research, 15% from advertising research, 11% from customer satisfaction, 2.5% from opinion and social, and just 1% from media research.
- TNS reported 3.1% revenue growth, with its syndicated services and custom research in continental Europe and Asia Pacific performing better than the US and UK custom research divisions.
- VNU reported a 2% rise in revenues, with the company's Media Measurement & Information (MMI) group - which includes Nielsen Media Research and NetRatings - achieving 4% growth.
- IMS Health reported 14% revenue growth: 10% in the Americas, 19% in Europe, and 14% in Asia Pacific.
Aegis attributes Synovate's success in part to 'the synergistic benefits of connecting local agencies into a cohesive worldwide network'. Synovate has expanded in Australia, with the Acquisition of Aztec Information Systems in March and Market Equity this week (
www.mrweb.com/drno/news4520.htm ). Development of the company's European presence included the acquisition of French MR group ARTeam, AMT in Italy, and Columbus Quanti in Belgium. Its Asia-Pacific operations also enjoyed a successful six months, with more demand from clients across the region, particularly in China.
Meanwhile, analysts continue to speculate that French media and communications group Havas may have plans to buy Aegis (
