Arbitron Boosts Senior PPM Team

September 16 2005

Arbitron has promoted two company veterans to strengthen its Portable People Meter (PPM) research team. Beth Webb becomes Director, PPM Research, and Dan Ames Director, International Research.

Webb was previously Manager, PPM Methods and Analysis. In her newly created position, she will oversee all day-to-day aspects of the Arbitron PPM research program in the US, including analysis of the current Houston trial, the quality of new PPM methods, co-ordination of MRC audit activities and giving guidance to Project Apollo.

Chief Research Officer Bob Patchen says Webb has 'played a crucial role in the development, testing and evaluation of our PPM methods over the past four years' and is the 'go to' expert for topics including improving panel response rates and compliance; devising and testing edit rules; and analyzing the PPM radio and TV ratings results.

She joined Arbitron in 1996, having worked previously served as a supervisor in the University of Maryland's School of Behavioral and Social Sciences' Survey Research Center and earned her Master's Degree at the same University.

Ames, previously Manager, International Methods and Standards, will now be accountable for ensuring the quality of all of Arbitron's global research activities. He will provide methodological support, as well as research and operational assistance required by international licensees to successfully deploy PPM tests and commercial panels for radio and television measurement. He joined the company in 1998, and has an MBA from Hood College of Maryland.

Patchen became CRO just over two weeks ago - he was previously VP, Research Standards and Practices, responsible for supervising all aspects of the PPM and international research programs. Both the new promotees will continue to report to Patchen and will be based in Arbitron's Research & Development office in Columbia, MD.

The company is online at www.arbitron.com.
