EMC and Acxiom to Develop Information Grid Solution

January 9 2006

Information management companies EMC and Acxiom are joining forces to develop and market a grid-based information infrastructure product. Additionally, EMC has acquired Acxiom's information grid software for $30m. Acxiom will continue to have access to the software and further developments.

According to the companies, grid technology helps customers enhance information access and workflow, improve distributed information access, and deliver faster results. Over time, the companies plan to integrate their systems, software, services and data into a complete information grid solution for customers.

Jeff Nick, EMC's Chief Technology Officer, states: 'Information continues to grow at staggering rates. For many organizations, innovation and competitive advantage are locked inside this wealth of data - from internal sources on customers and prospects, to external sources on demographics and purchasing habits, to supply chain data.'

Speaking of the purchase and new partnership, he adds: 'We've been evaluating grid software for some time and found Acxiom's grid solution to be by far the most advanced. Together, Acxiom and EMC will provide customers with the industry's most complete, grid-based information infrastructure for information-intensive applications.'

Acxiom's Chairman Charles Morgan says: 'By combining EMC's proven track record of innovation and market reach with our established business intelligence leadership, we will be able to deliver a configurable, scalable platform in a single location where services and data content can be manipulated, stored and made available to information-centric applications.'

The companies are online at www.acxiom.com and www.emc.com.
