US Internet audience measurement specialist NetRatings has filed a lawsuit against WebSideStory, alleging infringement of five patents owned or controlled by NetRatings. The patents in question relate to the collection, analysis and reporting of computer usage activity.
NetRatings currently has other actions pending against Coremetrics, Omniture, SageMetrics and Sane Solutions, alleging infringement of patents in its portfolio.
William Pulver, President and CEO of NetRatings, commented: 'Our patented technologies are at the core of NetRatings' high quality, innovative product portfolio. As we see growing demand from Internet advertisers and marketers for products and services that rely on these technologies, we intend to aggressively pursue and expand our patent enforcement program.'
WebSideStory last week announced revenue growth of 79% for the fourth quarter of 2005. It also announced that it had acquired Visual Sciences, a US web analytics company that provides streaming data analysis and visualisation software (www.mrweb.com/drno/news5126.htm ).
NetRatings is marketed globally under the Nielsen//NetRatings brand. The company, which provides panel-based and site-centric Internet audience measurement services, is online at www.nielsen-netratings.com
