Rise of KPO in India

June 15 2006

Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) in India will soon overtake IT-related Business Process Outsourcing as a revenue source, according to comments by a leading figure in the country's outsourcing industry. MR processes form a major component of KPO.

Kiran Karnik, President of the Indian National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), said this week that India is fast becoming recognised as the global leader for outsourcing, with the strongest links to US and UK companies. KPO has developed very rapidly, based around services such as research & analysis, business & market research, investment analysis, legal research, finance & accounting advisory services, product & brand management and medical services.

According to Karnik, 'The global KPO business is expected to grow US $17 billion by year 2010 and India's share is expected to be US $12-14 billion.' India's large pool of English-speakers and good technical education are cited as key reasons for its prominent position.
