IRI Buys Alcohol Research Firm

July 27 2006

US-based Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) has acquired the assets of Secant, Inc., a specialist in the alcoholic beverage sector whose offerings include data acquisition, transformation and reporting applications focused on hard-to-measure market segments.

Secant principals Elena Amboyan and Anne Carlson have been named Senior Vice Presidents of IRI and will join its Beer, Wine and Spirits vertical practice.

IRI says the acquisition builds on its strong existing links with beverage manufacturers and underlines its commitment to providing them with broad expertise in the market, supported by comprehensive, end-to-end data for both on- and off-premise channels. The firm will integrate its IRI InfoScan® tracking information with Secant's Meridian™ sales information from distributor down to the retail outlet, and claims that this will 'bridge a vast information gap and has exciting linkages to understanding consumption behavior'.

IRI President and Chief Executive Officer Scott W. Klein says the complete information picture that beverage alcohol companies require 'can only be created by integrating multiple sources of data and insight interpreted by unique domain expertise.' He adds: 'Today's beverage alcohol marketplace is becoming increasingly fragmented and difficult to measure and IRI is uniquely positioned to address the evolving marketplace.'
