MRS To Teach Wider Business Skills

August 14 2006

The UK's Market Research Society (MRS) has launched a new training and development programme aimed at broadening researchers' business and leadership skills. The schedule incorporates elements of the programme of the BMRA, which was absorbed into the MRS in April.

The MRS Learning & Development Programme, due for launch in September, also includes an element specifically targeted at senior executives. This summer, the Society has also opened a new training suite in Clerkenwell, London, comprising a state-of-the-art presentation room, breakout areas and on-site access to the full range of MRS services.

The new programme is divided into three strands:

  • Research Skills;
  • Business Skills, which incorporates one-day courses such as Winning New Clients and Internal Auditing to enhance researchers' broader business expertise; and
  • Leadership Skills - designed to help senior level executives maximise the performance of themselves and their teams via four one-day courses - Mentoring Skills, Advanced Client Relationships, Essential Skills in People Management and Skills for Effective Leadership.
The last two strands are built on a combination of existing MRS and BMRA courses with extra material added.

The new programme also offers a wider range of online learning courses, which run alongside the MRS' one-day courses and in-company programmes.

Barbara Deutschle, MRS Training Programme Manager, says the changes will enhances the organisation's leading position in professional MR training: 'By integrating some of the BMRA courses and offering a broader programme that enhance researchers' business skills, we can meet the needs of those looking beyond the core research competencies - and ensure clients get a higher level of expertise.'
