Flat Panel Firm Hires Taiwan Director

DisplaySearch, flat panel display specialist within the NPD Group, has appointed Kevin Liao as Director of Taiwan Small / Medium Display and OLED Market Research, with a remit to expand the business.

He joins after seven years at Taiwan's Industry Technology Research Institute (ITRI), where he conducted market and technology research on display markets including including TFT LCD, STN, TN LCD and OLED technologies. He also played important roles in many special projects jointly developed by industrial companies and ITRI, and received an award for his work from Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs among others.

Prior to ITRI, Mr. Liao was a process engineering manager at Hauzer Co., a leading vacuum and coating equipment company in Taiwan. He holds a master's degree in Opto-Electronics from National Central University in Taiwan.

The appointment reflects the continuing gains in market share for Taiwanese small/medium display makers, from 25% in Q2'05 to 27% in Q2'06, and a forecast 29% share in Q4'06. David Hsieh, the firm's VP of Greater China, comments: 'it's critical for DisplaySearch to have a dedicated small/medium display market analyst in Taiwan.' He adds: '[Liao] has a wealth of experience in tracking display shipments and revenues in addition to his technical background. We believe he will add tremendous value in the technical product development area and provide key insights for our customers.'
