Arbitron's People Person Gets Wider Business Role

October 18 2006

Arbitron has underlined the link between its people and its overall business success with the promotion of Marilou Legge to Senior VP, Organization Effectiveness. The new role builds on her former duties as VP for the company's Talent Acquisition and Development group.

Legge will oversee Arbitron's Organization Effectiveness group, which develops its organizational structure and culture and supports its business communications. She has spent the past six years leading talent initiatives for the company, helping it twice to win a listing in Fortune magazine's '100 Best Companies to Work For' and recognition as an Employer of Distinction in the state of Maryland.

She worked as Director of Research and Managing Editor for TV Factbook at Television Digest Inc. in Washington, D.C. before joining Arbitron in 1984 in research and operations. She worked on testing of the first pushbutton people meter, on the development of the ScanAmerica service, and led the company's minority respondent outreach program. In 1987, she moved into Organization Effectiveness where she has remained since, covering areas including leadership development, staffing and organizational design, compensation design and employee benefits and services, in addition to managing the company's employee intranet.

Legge, who holds a bachelor's degree in Communications from Bowling Green State University, is based in the company's Columbia, Md. Office and reports directly to Kathleen Ross, Executive VP and Chief Administrative Officer. Ross says Legge is 'uniquely capable' in helping Arbitron get 'the right people in the right jobs', crucial to its success as a company. She adds, 'On an almost daily basis, I receive kudos from managers throughout the organization on Marilou's ability to partner with them on myriad thorny personnel issues.'

Arbitron's research and technology organization is located in Columbia, Maryland and its executive offices in NYC. The company has around 1,800 employees and is online at www.arbitron.com .
