Instant Sale for PS3s

November 17 2006

Sony has today launched its PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) in the US. Some people have queued all week to buy it and play on it, and others to buy it and sell it again on eBay with an average 150% mark-up, according to eBay research specialist HammerTap.

The new and long-awaited console is HDTV ready and a shoe-in Christmas bestseller. HammerTap says that before the gaming system was even released, more than 1,800 pre-sale PS3s were been sold on eBay, bringing in nearly $3 million. Each system averages $1,500 on eBay, $900 more than the retail shelf price.

'Re-sellers of the new PLAYSTATION 3 can expect to make a hefty profit' according to HammerTap spokesperson Jen Cano. 'The research shows incredible markups already, and once the game is no longer on the shelves, HammerTap data predicts that prices will skyrocket.' eBay seller calibertech reportedly sold the first PS3 on eBay for $14,900.

HammerTap offers in-depth market research tools, education and support for eBay sellers and is online at www.hammertap.com .
