Cathy Marlow Murder: Man Admits Card Theft

January 19 2007

A 38-year-old man has pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a credit card belonging to murdered Research Now Finance Manager, Cathy Marlow. At this point, no-one has been charged with the killing.

Daniel Kennedy, from Kennington in South London, pleaded guilty to theft and going equipped for theft at Camberwell Green Magistrates Court this afternoon, and has been remanded in custody for a further week. Kennedy was filmed on CCTV at 4pm on Saturday trying to withdraw cash using the card, but claimed in court today that he found it when his wife and a friend brought home a handbag they had found.

The bag has now been recovered in a search of Kennedy's house, but at present there is said to be no indication that he was directly involved in the murder - further inquiries are ongoing.

On Wednesday, a 28-year-old man held over the killing, was released without charge. He is thought to be one of Ms Marlow's former colleagues, and the person who alerted the emergency services after discovering her body at Research Now's South London offices last Saturday. Ms Marlow had been living in London since 2004, and had worked for Research Now for about 18 months.

Police have not commented on how the killer got into the building or whether there were signs of a break-in.

Anyone with information about the crime, or who may know the whereabouts of the missing bag, should call the incident room on 020 8721 4805, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
