Cathy Marlow Murder: Eyewitness Saw Handbag Dumped

January 22 2007

Police seeking the killer of Research Now exec Cathy Marlow have released a description of a man seen dumping her handbag shortly after she was murdered in her London office on January 13th. Meanwhile a third man, aged 26, has been arrested in connection with the case, and released on bail.

The third man is said to have been in contact with Daniel Kennedy, the 38-year old Kennington man who admitted theft of her bag on Friday.

At the weekend, Detective Chief Inspector Damian Allain released further details of Cathy Marlow's last hours in the hope of jogging memories. Police believe she left her home just after 9am on January 13 and walked to work, stopping at Toni's Deli, opposite her office, at 9.10am – CCTV footage of this was released. At around 1.30pm she spoke to a friend, whom she had arranged to meet at 2pm. Mr Allain said police believed she had been attacked on her way out of her office between 1.36pm and 2pm.

Police say an eyewitness saw the wanted man dumping the handbag (pictured) in a bin on Vauxhall Street, in Lambeth on the afternoon of the murder. He is described as white, about 5 foot 10 inches, of slim build, aged between 25 and 35, with short, dark evenly cut hair and stubble, scruffily dressed in a dark top with a round neck and long sleeves, and dark trousers - possibly jeans. The man was said to be dishevelled, agitated and nervous.

Anyone with information of possible relevance to the case should call the incident room on 020 8721 4805 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
