IDC Expands Footprint, Grows Revenue

February 20 2007

Technology analyst IDC has reported results for 2006, with worldwide revenues up 12% to $297 million. Twenty new countries were added to its coverage in the year, bringing the total to 93.

The firm says healthy market demand was complemented by its ongoing investments in expanded geographic and vertical industry coverage and the addition of new research products and analysts.

The 93 countries have a genuinely global spread, with 35 in Europe, 27 in the Middle East and Africa, 17 in Asia/Pacific and 14 in the Americas. The firm added 85 to its global research head count in 2006, bringing it to more than 900 analysts, of which just under two thirds are located outside the USA.

IDC says it will spend$40 million to expand its industry-specific research, launching a family of Industry Insights companies and enhancing its Vertical Views research. In 2006, IDC launched the Government Insights company and acquired EPRI Solutions Market Intelligence Division to expand the capabilities of its Energy Insights company. It has three other Insights companies covering Financial, Health and Manufacturing sectors. As a whole the five companies grew revenues by more than 40% in 2006.

In 2006 the company launched new Worldwide Quarterly Tracker products in the Enterprise Network, Photo Printer, and Monitor categories, and greatly enhanced its coverage of the digital marketplace and new media segments. Its conference business also enjoyed a healthy year.

According to President and CEO Kirk Campbell, the firm's clients have put particular emphasis on their need for information about emerging markets. 'To address these needs, IDC has made major investments to extend its industry-leading geographic presence and to expand the scope of its vertical industry research.'

IDC, online at www.idc.com , is a subsidiary of technology media, research, and events company IDG, which had 2005 revenues of $2.68 billion and has 13,600 employees worldwide.
