CMOR Seeks Local Reps for Capitol Idea

US research body CMOR has launched the 'State Capitol Network', a new volunteer committee created to monitor and respond to state legislative issues affecting the survey research profession.

CMOR is searching for representatives at the state level, to serve as the profession's 'observer' for their state(s) and step in when issues arise in their state legislature. The network is designed to supplement CMOR's existing mechanisms, helping it to remain 'proactive and as alert as possible on all issues'. CMOR staff will provide training to volunteers on how to communicate with congressional staff.

Donna Gillin, CMOR's Director of Operations comments: 'Committees such as the State Capitol Network are necessary in order to keep up with the dynamic political landscape. Legislation varies from state to state and we need to be made aware of any harmful policies affecting survey researchers that could potentially slip under the radar.' Issues to be monitored include technical uses of information, healthcare benefits, taxes, privacy and human resource issues.
