Ciao Splits in Two

Greenfield Online has formally split its European subsidiary Ciao into two separate entities: the booming comparison shopping business will retain the short name Ciao, while the Internet survey solution wing, also growing fast, will be known as Ciao Surveys.

The decision was made in order to give each area of the company a clearer focus on the business opportunities available in its market.

Ciao Surveys Managing Director Nicolas Metzke says the separation will enable Ciao Surveys and Greenfield Online to more fully integrate while adopting a uniform operating platform for their MR activities.

Ciao provides a European online price comparison and user review portal across seven European countries, offering users more than 3.4 million products and 4.3 million consumer reviews across 20 product categories. Its MDs, Stephan Musikant and Daniel Keller, say they will continue to differentiate the firm's shopping portals by offering visitors new products, features and supporting tools, adding: 'We will also concentrate on successfully growing our shopping community to increase the exchange of high quality consumer reviews on a broader base of products.'

Ciao Surveys provides a full range of Internet survey solutions including sampling, programming, translating and managing online data collection. Both firms were founded in Munich, Germany in 1999.
