UK Advertisers Lead Charge Online

July 3 2007

Online ad spending in the UK is growing much faster than in the US and other developed nations, according to eMarketer: this year the UK should account for more than half of all online ad spending in Western Europe.

The online marketing information specialist forecasts the UK cornering a 52.6% share of the Western European market in 2010, citing steady economic growth, further advances in broadband, mobile Internet access and associated ad-serving technology as driving forces.

eMarketer says UK spend grew 47% in 2006 and will rise around 31% in 2007, with value increasing from £2.6 billion in 2007 to £4.5 billion in 2011 – higher than the c.$8.24bn forecast for the US that year. Online's slice of the UK's total ad spend pie is forecast to hit 18% in 2007, more than double the percentage in the US or in any country in continental Europe.

The report also looks at the size of the UK online audience and at consumer attitudes towards online advertising.

eMarketer aggregates and analyzes e-business research from over 2,800 sources, and brings it together in analyst reports, daily research articles and the 'eStat Database'. Web site: www.emarketer.com .
