infoUSA Reports Revenue Growth

August 2 2007

Business and consumer database firm infoUSA, which owns Opinion Research Corporation, has reported second quarter results. Record revenue of $160.1m included $50.1m from ORC; excluding the recently purchased research firm, revenue rose 9.7% on the year.

Operating income for the second quarter, which ended on June 30, was $16.0 million, which includes $2.6 million for Opinion Research. Again, excluding the research firm it showed a healthy growth from $7.5m in Q2 2006 to $13.4m a year later. Earnings per share were up from $0.06 in Q2 2006 to $0.11.

The group says the Opinion Research acquisition 'continued to perform well during the second quarter' with cost savings from the elimination of public company and other corporate overhead costs.

InfoUSA's Marketing Research Group is divided into the Worldwide Corporate MR division known as Opinion Research and the Government Research division known as Macro International. The firm says the former 'will continue to expand its overseas operations in Europe and Asia, taking advantage of cross-selling opportunities with other infoUSA companies.

Founder, Chairman and CEO Vin Gupta says the company 'experienced growth in our core businesses in a seasonally weak period and saw the impact of our successful integration of the acquisition of Opinion Research'. On the subject of the MR acquisition he adds: 'Our early success with Opinion Research validates our belief that clients see the value in marketing research services that include customer surveys, product surveys, and employee surveys to the corporate and public sector.' Gupta says the firm will continue to grow its business through strategic acquisitions - in addition to ORC, it recently acquired business information firms Guideline and NWC.
