New Research Centre and Hires for Sport Marketing Institute

In Canada, the Institute for Sport Marketing (ISM) has announced the on-campus launch of its new research centre at Laurentian University, and appointed Xiaoyan Xing as Associate Director of International Research and Ann Pegoraro as Associate Director.

The two appointees, plus Director Norm O'Reilly opening the new centreHeaded by ISM Director Norm O'Reilly, the centre will build on established research strengths and public and private sector partnerships to produce applied, relevant and collaborative research both in Canada and internationally.

Xing joins with an extensive background in the sport industry and since 2000 has been involved in Beijing's bid and organisation of the 2008 summer Olympic Games. At ISM, her research examines how consumers interpret and represent sport and their behavioural consequences. Xing has presented her qualitative and quantitative work in sport management and marketing at many professional conferences in North American. She has an MA from the University of Texas.

Pegoraro, a life-long sports enthusiast, received her doctorate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and currently holds a faculty appointment as Assistant Professor of Marketing in the School of Commerce in the Faculty of Management. Her new role will focus on investigating how different forms of media are used to establish connections with consumers of sport.

O'Reilly said about the new developments: 'With our talented research team now in place, the ISM has the unique potential to become a world leader in sport management research. We are very excited about the future and intend to fully explore this potential.'

The ISM was founded in 2001 to create a Canadian database of sports marketing/sponsorship statistics and trends. Its home page is at www.ism.laurentian.ca.
