Berlin Game for GMI

September 17 2007

Software and panels firm GMI has taken the opportunity of the ESOMAR Annual Congress in Germany to launch a new online Gamer Panel, developed in partnership with leading video game web site GameSpot.

The panel provides access to reach to a wide range of gaming segments, including players of console and PC games, and online gamers, and promises 'real-time access to the opinions of gamers for future product development, pricing and purchase behavior, or test marketing strategies and ad concepts'.

The launch adds to GMI's existing specialty panels which include IT professionals, youth and teens, physicians, nurses and others.

Dietmar Walter, GMI's Executive Vice President EMEA, says panelist recruitment has been focused mainly in North America to start, but will rapidly expand into EMEA and Asia-Pacific to reflect the global opportunity gaming presents. 'The Entertainment Software Association reports that U.S. computer and video game software sales grew by six percent in 2006 to $7.4 billion. In addition, PricewaterhouseCoopers estimates the worldwide video game market to grow to $46.5 billion by 2010.'

Panelists undergo a rigorous qualification process based on answers to nearly 100 questions, and are profiled on a wide range of attributes, including ownership and use of consoles and other consumer electronics, hours per week spent gaming, genre of games played, sources for learning about new games and use of third party voice technology.

Founded in 1999 with world headquarters in Seattle, Wash., GMI (Global Market Insite, Inc.) has operations on five continents and is on the web at www.gmi-mr.com. The new panel has its own home page at www.gmiglobal.com/gamers.
