Funding for Segmentation Firm

New York-based start-up Media6Degrees, Inc. (Media6°) has announced the closing of a $9m series A round of funding led by U.S. Venture Partners. The company offers an innovative alternative to conventional segmentation for ad targeting purposes, grouping like-minded individuals using social graph data.

Media6° uses the phrase 'birds of a feather flock together' to explain the basis of its patent pending audience creation technology, which connects a brand's existing customers with user segments of consumers interconnected via the social graph. The highly scalable and customised audience segments are said to share 'powerful demographic and psychographic traits', leading to high levels of response and engagement.

Founding CEO Joe Doran, previously General Manager of Microsoft Ad Center, says Media6° uses currently available advertiser data and does not collect any personally identifiable consumer information.

The company, which received early stage funding from Contour Venture Partners, Coriolis Ventures and several prominent angel investors, will now add to its board Tim Connors, General Partner, of U.S. Venture Partners and his USVP colleague Ted Maidenberg.
