NVivo Upgrade Breaks Down Language Barriers

August 29 2008

Australia-based research software developer QSR International has added Spanish and Chinese language versions to its flagship NVivo qualitative research software tool.

NVivo 8 functionality will be available to Spanish and Chinese speaking users who will be able to switch between Spanish, simplified Chinese and English interfaces and support materials at any time.

The system also allows users to upload and analyze video, audio, images and text side-by-side. Its analysis tools are used to interrogate data, and enable the creation of models and charts.

In addition, NVivo project files and results can be shared via mini web sites, including those which don't have Nvivo, and the software can identify the work of individual team members, even after separate projects are merged.

As part of QSR International's strategy to make qualitative analysis software available to non-English speaking researchers worldwide, an update to the Japanese version of NVivo 7 is about to be released, and additional language versions are also being considered.

'For those using NVivo 8 software to manage global projects, it means they can work in their own language but use the same methodology and process as their overseas colleagues,' commented CEO John Owen. 'It allows the world's best minds to work together to undertake important international qualitative research.'

Researcher Dr Petula Ho Sik-ying at The University of Hong Kong added that the upgrade will enable her research team to conduct analysis across its multiple sites in Hong Kong and mainland China in multiple languages: 'Using Vivo 8 on a Chinese Windows platform is a real breakthrough,' she said.

QSR International is headquartered in Victoria, Australia, with additional offices in North America and Europe.
