Gallup Adds New Data to Daily Service

September 11 2008

In the US, Gallup has upgraded its daily service which provides data on how Americans view the presidential election and the economy.

The improved 'Gallup Daily' will now also report daily measures on Americans' standard of living, the US job market, well-being, and health, and more daily measures will be added over the coming weeks and months.

The service was launched in January and is based on around 1,000 or more interviews conducted every night. Methodology involves live interviewers, a random-digit-dial sample, as many as five call-backs to those not home when called, cell-phone sampling, and Spanish speaking interviewers available for households in which only Spanish is spoken.

New numbers are posted every day at 1pm EST, enabling users to access the results of surveys conducted in the last 24 hours, click on any measure to find the complete trend on that item, and read the latest news from Gallup writers and analysts.

The latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update finds John McCain continuing to lead Barack Obama, 48% to 43% among registered voters. These results are based on combined data gathered from 2,714 voters from September 7-9. During this period, the remaining 9% of participants say they are undecided, refuse to state their preference, say they will vote for neither McCain nor Obama, or indicate they are voting for another candidate.

Washington DC headquartered Gallup employs around 2,000 professionals who deliver services at client organization, through the web, at Gallup University's campuses, and in 40 offices around the world.

Earlier this year, the company launched its World Poll annual global survey of opinions and behaviours, and its Well-Being Index to address the health, wellness and prevention needs of the population.
