SPSS Tool Promises Better, Easier Graphics

September 26 2008

Software giant SPSS has unveiled Viz Designer™, which uses 'leading-edge' graphic technology to display results from its Predictive Analytics software more clearly and intuitively.

The firm says Viz Designer can replace a simple bar graph or pie chart with 'a more dynamic visualization to clarify, engage and enlighten'. Users can create their own styles and can include animations, using a drag-and-drop design interface.

The product uses nViZn, a patented SPSS technology based on 'The Grammar of Graphics' principles developed by Leland Wilkinson. It interfaces with some of the company's other key offerings, including SPSS Clementine 12.0.2 data mining software and SPSS Statistics 17.0; and also directly access data from common database applications.

According to Rich Holada, the firm's Senior VP of Technology: 'SPSS Viz Designer provides users with the canvas, paint and palette so everyone across the organization can use this graphical power to better explain concepts, translate trends and generate new knowledge.' Holada says the product 'furthers SPSS' commitment to make Predictive Analytics technology more accessible to a much wider audience.'
