Automated Phone Polling System Unveiled

October 31 2008

In the US, IT solutions firm Orion Systems has launched a new automated phone system which it says will enable any size of organization to conduct public opinion polling.

More than 15 years' of development have gone into creating the firm's new Pollster system, which integrates polling software and a phone board into a desktop computer with microphone and speakers. Users can plug in their phone lines, record their poll or survey, and set the system in motion.

They can also upload their own database of numbers, or poll nationwide from the firm's database of 90 million numbers in all 50 states and Washington, DC. Polls can be targeted by state, county, area code, zip code, or randomized.

Results are available in real-time, and the system offers features like branching, which changes question lines based on given responses. It also allows organizations to segment their contact databases into action groups, to help them identify potential volunteers, donors or buyers.

'Traditional public opinion polling is so time-consuming and expensive that most people can't use it,' said President Don Guy. 'With Pollster, you aren't paying outrageous expenses to have 500 people called over the course of a week, as it enables you to call 500 people in a day at a fraction of the cost of using a call center.'
