NPD Launches Consumer Perception Tracker

Consumer and retail specialist The NPD Group has launched a study to monitor how the US economy is affecting consumer attitudes and shopping behaviour.

The firm's Economy Tracker is based on online surveys completed by 1,000 nationally representative respondents. Results will be released monthly to help subscribers identify major economic trends and effects.

Categories covered include consumer electronics, video games, music, movies, eating out, apparel and others. Demographic information is also provided for analysis by age, income, census region and other variables.

'The current economic situation is creating dramatic shifts in consumer spending,' said Dee Warmath, VP for Retail Insights. 'Our goal in developing The Economy Tracker is to help our clients identify the bright spots in an otherwise bleak retail landscape.'

The NPD Group provides consumer and retail information for a wide range of industries. It recently partnered with GfK Chart-Track, and publisher Enterbrain to produce a single source of data on video game software sales in the US, UK and Japan.
