Elsevier Shines Light on its Content

January 22 2009

Scientific publisher Elsevier had introduced illumin8, a web-based natural language processing system designed to help researchers extract meaning from its scientific content, millions of patents, and eight billion web pages.

The system uses algorithms to extract relationships from vast amounts of information, by reading and distilling data and then combining it into an organized view. It is part of the firm's portfolio of information retrieval solutions which offer users access to the full-text of Elsevier journals.

Commenting on the launch, Martin O'Malley, MD of Corporate Markets said: 'By bringing illumin8 to our European corporate audience, we're aiming to contribute to a more streamlined process and allow corporate researchers, scientists, information and innovation professionals to embrace the evolving importance of international collaboration.'

Elsevier publishes scientific, technical and medical information products and services, as well as 2,000 journals and 1,900 new books per year.
