Web-based Training Opportunities Open Up

December 12 2001

One in five UK CAD/CAM users who have not yet used web-based training would consider doing so in future, according to recent research conducted by The Business Advantage Group Plc. Meanwhile, a quarter might consider web-based training in future and nearly three fifths said that they would not be interested in future.

The research also found that:

  • Just over one in twenty CAD/CAM users currently use web-based training; 5% using self-learning tutorials downloaded from the Web, and 2% using real-time Web seminars.
  • A third of the sample said that staff undertake no training, with most claiming that it is not necessary.
  • Of those CAD/CAM users who have never used any form of web-based training to date, only 16% recall having ever been offered this option.

Chris Turner, Managing Director of The Business Advantage Group Plc, observed 'Web-based training is an area for which massive growth has been predicted in the coming years. The findings of our research show that opportunities for this market are starting to open up. One in five sites are definitely interested in accessing web-based training, with just less than a quarter open to persuasion. In the UK and elsewhere in Europe, the patchy availability of broadband is an issue, but with targeted telemarketing the opportunity exists for suppliers of on-line training services to win the business of such sites.'

The findings came from telephone interviews conducted in October 2001 with representatives at 250 UK CAD/CAM user-sites from a range of business activities. The sample was taken from Business Advantage's database of 20,000 UK CAD/CAM user sites.
