Survey Sampling Expands Online Sampling Capability

January 17 2002

Survey Sampling, Inc. (SSI) and the Excite Network's iWon portal have joined forces to provide an expanded range of sampling services to the marketing research industry. The partnership will also allow SSI to further expand the SurveySpot Internet Sampling Panel, a multi-sourced Internet research panel representing over a million individuals.

The SSI SurveySpot panel provides access to an increasing number of Internet households (unique e-mail addresses) on the basis of demographics such as age, gender, and income, and standard marketing geographies such as MSA and DMA. Selections can be balanced to the Internet or general population. In addition, SurveySpot allows special selections including ailments and prescriptive remedies, shopping preferences, and automotive ownership.

The Excite Network's iWon.com, the Internet's only registration-based loyalty portal, registers 91% of its users and currently delivers an audience of over 11 million and as such is billed as a most effective source for capturing mainstream America on the Internet. Joanne DiNapoli, SSI product manager, believes that the partnership with the Excite Network will not only allow the company to increase SSI's SurveySpot panel size, but also enhance its ability to provide Internet samples of low incidence segments.

The addition of Excite's iWon portal with 36 vertical channels and a host of specialised centres will add a new dimension to Survey Sampling's ability to efficiently reach low incidence population segments based on interests, behaviours, and demographics.

According to Terry Coen, SSI Vice President of Sales and Marketing, 'The iWon Portal Partnership expands SSI capabilities to the degree that SSI clearly offers the most comprehensive set of sampling solutions available to organizations conducting research via the Internet. It's not an issue of shoe-horning research designs into one specific sampling source, but rather engineering the best, most cost effective solution whether it be the Internet panel SurveySpot, the SSI E-LITe database of permission-based e-mail, or random Web intercepts through posting survey invitations on the iWon.com network portal.'
