New European Head for Ipsos Group

March 1 2002

Jean-Michel Carlo has just been named head of Ipsos' new Regional Management for Europe. Functioning as the new chairman and CEO, Carlo will manage the financial responsibility for Europe along with marketing activities worldwide. He is also due to sit on the group's global Management Board.

This recent appointment is thought to signify a diversification in the breadth and background of Ipsos' management team and structure. Carlo brings with him a wealth of heavyweight experience from a variety of previous international advertising posts. He was most recently chairman and CEO of the Diversified Agencies Group within Havas Advertising. Carlo in fact started his advertising career with Havas Conseil in 1971. Prior to this, he had worked at FCA! before joining Avril (member agency of the Havas Group).

Looking further back, Carlos had worked for a decade to 1991 as the Paris-based Managing Director, then chairman of Young & Rubicam France, before being appointed Chairman of Young & Rubicam Europe. From 1991 to 1996, he was a partner in BDDP, an advertising company, and then was Managing Director and a member of the board of directors.

Ipsos co-director Jean-Marc Lech commented that he had wanted 'to hire top level managers who come from the client side or from our client's partners and who have the ability to work with these same clients at a global level.' Partner co-director Didier Truchot added, 'Jean-Michel Carlo's appointment is a key element in the reinforcement of the management structure within the group as the company reaches a global dimension. Europe, which accounts for about 50% of our activity, is our home base. We aspire to be very competitive in Europe and maintain a centre of excellence entirely dedicated to our clients in the region.'
