Week of Audience Measurement 2002

In response to the call for regular and up-to-date information on audience research, the Advertising Research Foundation (ARF) and ESOMAR are organising a Week of Audience Measurement (WAM) this summer. This new annual event will run from the 9th to the 14th June in Cannes, France.

The advance details for WAM specify that it is actually to be four separate conference modules, covering the main media of television, online, print, and radio. Each module will focus on the recent developments and trends in audience measurement within each medium.

The specific programme days dedicated to the different areas are:


  • Television Audience Measurement Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 June.
  • Online Audience Measurement Wednesday 12 June.
  • Print Audience Measurement Thursday 13 June.
  • Radio Audience Measurement Friday 14 June.


During the session on TV, highlights include: The future of the television medium; Pathways to measuring consumer behaviour; Better television audience measurement through cable and satellite set-top boxes; iTV: Worth measuring? and One year of measuring digital TV in Germany.

During the online session, highlights include: Understanding and resolving issues in online audience measurement; Comparative analysis of varying methods of web server log files; The 'Online Reach Monitor' and Monitoring Internet audience measurement panels.

During the print session, highlights include: New methodological techniques/enhancements; Measuring the 'daily reach of dailies'; We're undercounting unduplicated eyeballs; Daily reach using SMS and Electronic measurement of magazine reading.

Finally during the radio session, highlights include: Measurement challenges of today's media environment; Towards a new 'golden standard' for radio audience surveys; Radio audience surveys in Belgium; Building a radio panel using fusion and recall surveys and Latest advances in audiometers.
