Re-Interviews for ESOMAR's DG

April 30 2002

Chris van Schijndel has stepped down from his forthcoming appointment as Director General of ESOMAR. Unforeseen private circumstances have been offered as the reason for his change of mind.

In response to the turnaround, ESOMAR President John Kelly has expressed his own personal disappointment with the state of affairs. Both the Council and staff of ESOMAR had been looking forward to van Schijndel's new leadership and the promise of a new stage of development for the society.

As would be expected, van Schijndel had been selected following a detailed and thorough recruitment drive, one that saw the ESOMAR Council work closely in conjunction with specialist recruitment agencies.

Given these new circumstances, the council has asked the incumbent Mario van Hamersveld to continue as acting Director General until a replacement is found. At the same time, van Hamersveld will restart the selection process for his successor.
