Council for Research Excellence (CRE)

April 3 2012

Jeffrey Graham, Judy Vogel and Tom ZiangasIn the US, Nielsen-funded client think tank The Council for Research Excellence (CRE) has approved three new members: Jeffrey Graham, Director of Advertising Research, Americas at Google; Judy Vogel, MD, Insights & Analytics at Media Storm; and Tom Ziangas, SVP, Research at AMC Networks.

Nielsen set up the CRE in 2005 as a body which conducts its own methodological research on audience measurement. To date, CRE has received a total of $10m in funding from the research giant.

CRE has completed a number of studies including the ‘Video Consumer Mapping Study’ involving in-person, computer assisted observation of media consumption; a set-top-box study; a non-response bias study exploring the impact of non-response to Nielsen surveys and an exercise revealing consumers’ habits immediately before, during and after watching TV commercials.

Last year, the Council selected research and advisory firm BIA/Kelsey to conduct a review of research currently available about user experience on multiple video platforms.

Graham joins with a fifteen year background in research. He has worked at Google since last November, prior to which he was EVP, Worldwide Director of Performance at Initiative, Executive Director of Customer Insight at The New York Times, and SVP of Research & Accountability at Starcom MediaVest. He began his career at Dynamic Logic.

Prior to working at Media Storm, Vogel was SVP Director of Research at PHD, Director of Media Research & Insights at OMD, and SVP Director of Media Research at BBDO Worldwide. Before this, she spent thirteen years at Ketchum Advertising, where she latterly served as Media Research Director.

Ziangas, who has worked for AMC Networks since 2009, previously spent twelve years at Nielsen as SVP Expanded Media Services, and earlier as SVP Nielsen Home Video Index. Before this, he was Manager of Sales Development at The Family Channel/MTM Entertainment.

Welcoming the new members, Ceril Shagrin, EVP of Univision Communications, and Chair of the CRE, commented: ‘We’ll have a full agenda this year and we’re looking forward to building on the work we’ve accomplished so far.’
